The biggest single fundraising activity for the Aquajets is volunteering at the Cambridge Bingo Centre. Volunteers are needed for one night a week for a few hours, 4 months of the year.
The monies raised from the volunteering which are made up of shares of a pool of proceeds amongst many Charitable organizations within Cambridge go directly to helping the club keep swim fees low, provide for much needed equipment and benefit swimmers from the most advanced to the beginners.
The Bingo Centre is bright and colourful and provides a modern atmosphere for the bingo players. The work done by the Aquajet parents has changed over the past year, and is much easier than before. As a part of the license agreement from the City of Cambridge, the Aquajets provide 3 volunteers on their allocated nights, and work at the back of the center together with full time Bingo Center staff. Duties include:
Handing out prize money to winners during the three Rapid Fire sessions. Rapid Fire being a fun quick bingo game played on electronic boards located at the back of the Bingo Center.
The rest of the evening is spent counting the evening’s takings and handing to the Bingo Center staff other prize monies for the main Bingo Games. Parents/volunteers work as a team helping each other and no previous experience is necessary. This is easy work in a relaxed atmosphere and is a chance to meet other Aquajet parents. Work is overseen by The Bingo Center manager and their staff is on hand to provide help and assistance when and if necessary. Please note that the Bingo Center is smoke free.
The months that the Aquajets have been assigned during our club year are November, January and March on Fridays from 9.10pm til 12.30 am and August on Thursdays at 6.15 pm ‘til 9.30pm.
You can volunteer by putting your name on the sheets displayed on the boards at either the Dolson or Johnson Pools, or by contacting Steve Lussi at the numbers below. In 2008 Bingo volunteers raised over $14,000 which helped keep swim fees down and provided much needed equipment for both pools.
Please note that failure for the Cambridge Aquajets to provide 3 volunteers on an allocated evening will result in the closure of the Bingo Centre for that evening and removal of the club from any future participation in the pool and therefore the loss of over $14,000 a year.
